Eddie helped us with our 1950s home renovation and I can’t recommend him highly enough!
He worked with us very closely at all times and his communication and responsiveness was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and detailed, he made some great suggestions through the design process and calmly navigated us through the council bureaucracy, which is not for the faint-hearted! Our overarching aim was to create a well insulated, energy and water efficient home that utilised solar gain and shading, and rain water capture and reuse - whilst bringing the house up-to-date and working within our budget. Eddie incorporated all this into the plans and then took it to the next level with his design for the conservatory, which transformed the project from a simple renovation into a designer makeover! Thank you Eddie for doing such a great job on our Tanglewood project. The fact that we could reliably contact you on the phone and deal with issues immediately was a huge relief to us while the construction industry was under such stress. We also really appreciated your highlighting any possible design issues and choices early on, giving us time to make considered decisions rather than continually having to react to emergencies!
Although you already had a strong sustainability background, you still didn't hesitate to do further research to find even better solutions, rather than trying to convince us to accept standard building practices (which to us are horrifically lax). Whisking out drawings really fast was really appreciated, and our continual requests for minor modifications were always gracefully accepted. We loved the fact that we could always rely on a little flare, yet your suggestions were always practical. The 3D images were a great help, especially to get a sense of the seasonal changes in sunlight inside the house. It was a joy to go through such a collaborative design process with you. Thanks! We approached Eddie with a concept plan in mind for renovating our home with the view of taking this through to detailed drawings and council consent. The design, within a small and constrained footprint, has been greatly improved by Eddie’s input and we have been very impressed with this work. We have found Eddie to be very reliable, knowledgeable and efficient. The design has been refined a few times over an extended period to try to meet our budget and each time Eddie has patiently explained the implications and quickly revised the plans. Our building consent application went through very smoothly which is further testament to Eddie’s work. Builders who have viewed the plans have commented on how detailed and clear the drawings are and how well thought through the design is. We highly recommend Eddie and look forward to working with him in the future.

Hi Eddie,
We would like to thank you most sincerely for the design work you did for us on our new build at Huia. We were greatly impressed and very appreciative of both your skills and your work ethic. It was very reassuring to know we were in such good hands for the entire process. The clarity and speed of your communication was astounding. You flagged decision points with us in advance of decisions having to be made, giving us time to discuss and research (usually with you assistance ) our options. More often than not any query, question, or suggestion we had for you, was dealt with within 24 hours. You kept the entire process moving forward at an efficient and steady pace. We were totally confident in your commitment to and knowledge of sustainable building practices so never had to worry that you would suggest something or allow consultants from other disciplines to include details and materials that would compromise thermal efficiency or place an unnecessary load on the environment etc. Your experience with Council requirements and your willingness to work methodically and thoroughly through these ensured a smooth and efficient Resource Consent and building consent process. We are totally happy to recommend you to prospective clients and for you to share any details of our design if appropriate. Once again, thank you for making what will be a once-in-a-lifetime project for us, such an interesting, enjoyable and satisfying experience. After seeing Eddie's own state house renovation in the Resene magazine we were impressed with his simplicity of style and environmental ethos, which we wanted included in our own renovation designs. Eddie has provided a very good service throughout the whole design and consent application process for our 1940's state house renovation. We had a strict budget which Eddie was able to work around, although we did have to leave out some 'nice to haves' for our final build. Eddie's communication was excellent and provided many additional ideas around building a more environmental and cost efficient house. Eddie was able to tailor our ideas and preferences into a well thought out and functional design. The final plans were very detailed and went through the building consent process without any problems. We would highly recommend Eddie as a very professional architectural designer.

Eddie proved to be of great value to us in the design of our New England inspired weatherboard home built in 2009. He listened attentively to our key requirements and made a number of recommendations that would future proof the house and make best use of the technology and materials available to us, but in turn not compromise the style of the house. In particular Eddie recommended a number of environmentally friendly and sustainable features to the home such as 140mm exterior framing to fit in greater insulation and provide increased comfort to the home. The benefits and cost savings of this have been particularly noticeable in both the winter and summer months. Eddie also inspired us to capture rain water into two underground catchment chambers for garden use, go for double glazed windows, add a heat pump and install water heating piping ready for solar panels.
We're absolutely delighted with his work, attention to detail and ability to listen and transform our ideas into practical solutions and would happily recommend his work to anyone. Vince and Elma McErlane (new Glendowie house, 2009) |
